Galien River Great Lakes Marsh

New Buffalo is proud to be home to the Galien River Great Lakes Marsh, 243.53 acres of which are protected, as shown on the map below:

Merganser Point includes 10.02 acres that are owned and protected by the Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy. Louis J. Sima donated 144.06 acres to Chikaming Open Lands who own and protect his namesake preserve. Berrien County owns and protects Galien River County Park (85.85 acres). And Red Arrow Landing (3.60 acres) is owned and operated by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. Red Arrow Landing is the start of the three-mile Galien River Water Trail, and the City Beach is the end. Both points have kayak concessionaires.
